Leaving Peenemünde we headed to Rostock to board the ferry to Denmark somehow the ferry journey went far quicker than the one to France, even though it was actually longer,. Who knows why, but it did!
Stopping at a campsite just outside Copenhagen we headed to the city and the first thing we saw was the famous Tivoli Gardens. We thought about stopping, but had other places we wanted to see and the queue was huge, so kept walking, and walking, and walking!
We passed a Lego shop almost immediately which amused me.
Copenhagen is fairly small and certainly walkable, so we headed off to find the Little Mermaid; alternatively known as ‘the little woman’; as we had recently learned listening to the Bad People podcast on our journey. The podcast is hosted by criminal psychologist Dr Julia Shaw and comedian Sofie Hagen where they discuss people who do terrible things, and the science of humanity’s dark side (it is a brilliant mix of true crime, science and dark humour and l recommend to anyone interested in psychology) .
They had been discussing the Colston statue toppling in Bristol and ’why we still have statues of people who do bad things’ - their description of that podcast episode. In the podcast, Sofie had mentioned the Little Mermaid as she is Danish and referred to her as the little woman, which sounded very creepy in the way she talked about it! She wasn’t creepy at all, but as many have said, she is small!
Next to the cathedral you find the Kastellet, a 17th century star shaped military barracks. It’s small, but worth a walk around.
Weaving our way through the city we stopped for lunch in a trendy Danish café ( it was my birthday so we splashed out - it was expensive, very expensive!) and wound our way back over cobbled streets and around the new harbour.
