Revealing the past

As we work our way through destroying the house (Ok, so we are pulling out bits of wall and filling it with insulation then rebuilding it) we discover its past; how it was made - wood front and back, blocks down the sides and what the builders read (The News of the World and The Sun). In fact we find bits of newspaper used in all sorts of places. In the wall as insulation (1971 when first built), behind the skirting as a gap filler in the purple room (1979) and a few other random places.

Our discussions about the walls highlights our different way of thinking, which makes sense to me and may to you too, but it is very different. I think of them as the purple room and the blue room, in fact that’s how I describe them. Ian, Bed 1 and Bed 2. Now, I know which he means, but I just can’t think of them like that, I can do our room and the spare room, but 1 and 2, …no… numbers never were my thing and very much Ian’s! We agree they will be 1 and 2 for clarity when discussing our work, but to me, they will never be 1 and 2.

The filling and sanding continues, Ian decides to build a cupboard to house the meter gubbins (that is such a mum word, I'm not sure I have heard other people use it, but it is a perfect word for this) and suddenly it is becoming a home and a house not a building site (Ok, maybe I am slightly optimistic, but we need to see progress to stay motivated!).

But today is an exciting day. I have a day off! I have been in a lot of pain in my very dodgy and heavily pinned and nailed arm, so I’ve had a massage, and it was fabulous! Just what I needed!

Today I am writing, resting, and what else would you do when a little early for your appointment, but go to the beach.

PS, this was all before lockdown 2!
